How do I stay focused?

If you're reading this it's because you have an interest in how I chose to change my lifestyle and begin my journey of FINALLY taking care of myself. If you're like me you probably take care of everyone else and feel guilty if you even have a thought of taking care of yourself. I'm here to tell you don't feel guilty, what's worse is feeling guilty if you put a burden on your family if you don't take care of yourself.

On November 7, 2009 I almost had a nervous breakdown and with the many life stresses that we go through, I knew it was time to start taking care of myself. For over 20 years, I started diets and did ok then failed because I saw it as a "diet". This time I knew I had to stay committed and learn what it was going to take to get healthy and feel better. I was on the verge of high blood pressure and heart disease which ran in my father's side of the family and I didn't want to be a statistic. Both my parents are diseased and I'm only 44 ;(. I weighed 255 lbs and wore a size 22, my feet hurt all the time from carrying all that weight and I was always tired.

The beginning wasn't easy but I kept telling myself I cannot GIVE UP, I had the support from my sisters, my best friend and my cousin who all joined the gym at the sometime.  Having a support network this time around was the best thing I did for myself. Seeing my journey as a lifestyle change has truly made the difference and saved my LIFE. At times, I find myself slipping into eating foods that I know i shouldn't eat and I pay for it later. Of course with 5 years under my belt with this journey, there are less slips than there were at the beginning. There is one thing that I don't allow to happen and that is Give Up and not get back on track if my eating falls off a day or two.

Don't beat yourself up but do get back on track, the more you learn from your mistakes the less mistakes and fewer bad choices you will make. When that happens you will get this and see why this has to be a lifestyle change. I often tell people when they ask me how I have loss 118 pounds and maintained it, I see health and fitness like I do brushing my teeth and putting deodorant on. No longer is this a fad for me but rather MY LIFE!!!
